1 week out

The excitement and discovery continues on board the JR. My group toured the drill floor wearing steel-toed boots, a hard hat, and protective glasses. The scientists and crew are about to lower the camera down to the sea floor, apx. 2660 m. Then they will start drilling through the sediment and rock below. Next, they will  lower a cylinder full of instruments that will collect data until it gets recover in about a year. This is a unique ship. Its work is very important. Collecting information about subsea floor will help us understand some of the major geological events that have an impact on our society. Be sure to check out the recent blogs from other people for great pictures. Food is delicious!! I removed my sea sickness prevention patches today and I am fine so far. I must have developed my sea legs.
