Matt Niemitz worked at Ocean Leadership for three years, planning and implementing education programs as well as designing and producing education posters, websites, and media, among many other tasks. Matt has an undergraduate degree in geology and was first introduced to ODP by conducting climate change research using samples from Leg 154. He sailed on the first School of Rock in 2005. He enjoys traveling, writing blogs and watching Seinfeld re-runs. He now lives in San Francisco.

My First Expedition--Central America, 2004
My first cruise on the JOIDES Resolution was in September of 2004. We left rainy Astoria, Oregon and sailed south toward our final destination of Panama City, Panama. We reached our site off the coast of Costa Rica, where we were set to recover instrumentation from a borehole that had been collecting water samples for the last year and half.
