Yesterday evening the SCIMPI tool, all 250 meters of it, had to be staged for today’s deployment through the drill pipe that has already traveled through 1272 meters of water and 260 meters of sediment. Next in line is to condition the hole to make sure it is as stable and clear as can be before the SCIMPI descends.
This endeavor is truly astonishing. The SCIMPI team has been waiting three years to deploy this tool, and needless to say, they were all a bit nervous at breakfast for their BIG GAME day. A tool of its kind has never been deployed. This is a maiden voyage, so there is the expectation that there will be lots of on-the-fly problem solving. Once in place, the team will wait three weeks before going back to the site to connect it to NEPTUNE.
