We are pleased to announce the School of Rock 2016: Exploring Ocean Cores and Climate Connections: From Antarctica Across the Southern Ocean. This professional development opportunity for formal and informal educators will take place May 29 – June 6 2016 on board the JOIDES Resolution in port in Cape Town, South Africa. While living on board the ship, teachers will work with scientists and technicians to learn about many aspects of earth science, geology, paleo-oceanography and more done aboard this amazing ship, what we learn from scientific ocean drilling, how to do the kinds of scientific analyses and lab exercises program scientists do, and have time to process this information to begin creating or modifying resources for their students.

When? May 29 – June 6 2015

How? Applications will be through our electronic application portal system and will include answers to a series of short essay questions, a c.v./resume, and one letter of recommendation. Application deadline is April 20.

How much does it cost? Participants will be selected through a competitive application process. If accepted, all travel expenses to and from the ship in Cape Town, South Africa will be covered by the program.
