Thar she blows! – but I missed it :-(

There were a couple of whales sighted today, but I missed them.  Suspected Bryde’s whales.  I have seen quite a few of these albatross, though, skimming the waters’ edge.  I haven’t seen any of them actually catching their dinner yet, but I remain hopeful. 

They are actually quite elegant looking as they skim along, never having to flap their wings since they are so efficient at catching all the updrafts from the waves.  Apparently, when they are sitting on a wave, they just open their wings as the wave crests and they just drift off an upward.  They must get their nickname of Goonie bird from their funny looking face and their ungainly landings.
