Preparing the ACORK
The purpose of this trip is to install an Advanced Circulation Obviation Retrofit Kit. The aim of this one is to monitor fluid pressure in sediments either side of the methane solid/gas transition boundary. The pressure monitoring equipment is in one of the ‘bays’ above the welder’s head. It stores data for up to 2 years, which can be retrieved by a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle), although there is a hope it will be linked in to Canada’s Neptune undersea cable system so the data can be observed in real time. Later today it will be lowered through the moon pool to the seafloor. I’ll be there! (at the moon pool that is, not the seafloor).
