Sediments at U1368
Yesterday, I mentioned that the bottom sediment at this site is black looking sediment and above it is light brown clay. During the day, I had the opportunity to sieve them, dry them, and look at them under the microscope. It was quite interesting, so I have put several photos below, so that you too can see what the thin sediments at this site are like. Photo 1 is the brown sediment core, photo 2 shows the foram shells after the clay was washed away, and photo 3 shows the dark sediment core.
The additional photos show the equipment used to wash the sediment samples. A #230 sieve was used and then the sample was drained using filter paper and a funnel. After drying in an oven, the sample was ready for microscopic viewing.
