This afternoon the JR received a special visit that carried an anticipated Christmas gift. During the last few days, there had been widespread speculation that Obama would visit the ship while drilling Site U1389 (GC-11A). Eventually this happened… Obama, not the US President, but a small boat, registered in the Spanish port of Cadiz, brought on board some nautical charts that were requested by the ship’s captain. However, the most desired cargo was the fresh vegetables and fruits that were almost exhausted aboard the JR.  This was one of the best Christmas gifts that we could have received, and is much appreciated during the rest of the expedition.

Esta tarde, o JR recebeu uma visita especial que transportava um presente de Natal antecipado. Durante os últimos dias, houve especulações de que Obama ia visitar o navio durante a perfuração do Site U1389 (GC-11A). E isso acabou mesmo por acontecer… Obama, não o Presidente os EUA, mas uma pequena embarcação, registada no porto espanhol de Cádis, trouxe a bordo algumas cartas náuticas que tinham sido solicitados pelo capitão do navio. No entanto, a carga mais desejada pela tripulação era a fruta e os legumes frescos que estavam quase esgotados a bordo do JR. Este foi um dos melhores presentes de Natal que poderíamos ter recebido e que será muito apreciado durante o resto da expedição.
