Today’s science presentations by the EXP 361 scientists were a testament to the collaborative philosophy behind IODP (International Ocean Discovery Program). As each scientist spoke of their main and ancillary interests, and the portions of the cores as well as the types of tests and investigations they were planning on running, others would take note and add to their own, until it was ultimately decided that portions of investigations could be shared between some people, and follow-up collaborative grants and proposals would be written to maximize analysis and minimize unnecessary repetition. These are 29 scientists from 14 countries, representing 25 institutions, all benefitting from working together. Impressive and awe inspiring!
