Heute ist es der Besatzung der JOIDES Resolution gelungen, die ersten Bohrkerne aus dem Blue Moon Schlammvulkan, dem ersten der Serpentinit-Schlammvulkane, die auf dieser Ausfahrt beprobt werden sollen, an Deck zu bekommen. Zunächst konnte nur ein kurzer Bohrkern geborgen werden, der vorwiegend braunen Tiefseeton enthielt. Doch bereits im zweiten Bohrkern, der wenige Stunden später an Deck kam, wurde Serpentinit in Bestandteilen verschiedener Größe entdeckt. Während draußen auf dem Pazifik pünktlich die Sonne untergeht, arbeiten die Wissenschaftler im Inneren des Schiffes unablässig weiter im Schichtdienst an der Auswertung der Proben, auf die alle so sehr gespannt waren.

Today the Crew of the JOIDES Resolution managed to bring up the first drill-cores on deck. They are from Blue Moon Seamount, the first of the three mud-vulcanoes the Expedition 366 Team is  going to drill into. The very first core was very short, containing mainly brown deep-sea mud, but already the second one, arriving only some hours later, contained Serpentinite and a lot of material for the scientists to take samples. While outside the sun sets down over the big Pacific Ocean, the scientists work on in two shifts around the clock to analyze the samples everybody on board has been waiting for.
