SCIENCE Skills

In this section, students are introduced to a variety of skills necessary to analyze ocean sediment cores and develop an understanding of geology and climate sciences. Several of these classroom activities teach students the process of science through core investigations, so that students learn to apply the scientific method through real-world applications. Once students have mastered this fundamental process, they can apply new skills such as graphing, plotting coordinates, and analyzing layers of sediments to further investigate Earth systems. This is a great place for students to start learning how scientists use ocean drill cores to develop a better understanding of Earth, its processes and its history.
