Actvity Summary: Students will be able to plot and analyze data taken from ocean floor drill sites to describe evidence of seafloor spreading.
This lesson focuses on how sediment deposition and thickness on the ocean floor evidence for seafloor are spreading. Students will use ocean sediment core data collected by the JOIDES Resolution. Students will plot and analyze sediment thickness data from the ten core samples on the Juan de Fuca plate obtained by Expedition 168. Before conducting this lesson, students should have a thorough understanding of plate boundaries and the geologic activity that occurs at each.
This lesson has been revised and updated based on Sediment Deposition Supports Seafloor Spreading.
