The JOIDES Resolution came through the Miraflora Lock at the Panama canal today, so we boarded a bus and went to watch.  Incredible feat of engineering. Everybody was hanging out on the fence to watch!

 

 

 

 

 

Just our luck, the JR was on the far side behind a huge container vessel!

The locks are incredible!  They are about 33 m wide, and construction is going on to increase the width and number of canals across, so as to handle more ships at a time.
