A new adventure is about to begin

After a few busy days in Ponta Delgada, that beyond the loading and refueling operations included tours of The JR for almost 200 students and teachers from 4 local High Schools, we are about to leave towards the first drilling site tomorrow morning.

During the tours the visitors were able to see how the cores are recovered and processed on the catwalk, the splitting room and the core lab and were introduced to the IODP main goals and achievements. They also realized that the ship work around the clock while passing by the stateroom area (where there is always someone sleeping, while others are working) and had the opportunity to meet the captain at the ship's bridge.
