Ocean Core academy 2025

June 8-15 2025

College Station, TX @The Gulf Coast Repository

The U.S. Science Support Program is proud to announce a new opportunity for undergraduate students interested in exploring research and workforce possibilities within scientific ocean drilling and related geosciences.
OCEAN CORE (Ocean Core Exploration ANew investigators Community Outreach and Research Experiences) Academy (June 8-15, 2025) is being offered by the International Ocean Discovery Program’s (IODP) U.S. Science Support office (USSSP). This is meant to be an extension and new (land-based) twist on our previous JR Academy program.
During an 8-day in-person and hands-on program at the Gulf Coast Repository June 8-15 2025, students will explore samples and data recovered from deep ocean floor cores, develop research questions, and engage in the scientific process to analyze and report their findings. In addition, they will go on geology-related field trips, practice science communication, be exposed to a wide array of career pathways, and develop a network of peers and mentors.

This is an on-site experience hosted in College Station, Texas and is supported by NSF; all travel expenses will be covered, including food and lodging while in Texas. To be eligible, students must be over 18 and enrolled in a U.S. 2- or 4-year institution of higher learning. To apply, submit an application by April 4, 2025.
