On the JR I am the Physical Properties Technician; I work in the Core Lab and over see the track systems with the pycnometer used for finding density of sediments to calculate porosity and other physical properties of the cores.

I have been with IODP for 2 years. I started as a Student research assistant under Carlos then moved to the Gulf Coast Repository where I have been for a little over 1.5 years. I am a Curatorial Technician in charge of receiving, processing, and distributing all DSDP, ODP, and IODP sample requests for all 3 repositories. I also over look the students in the repository lab and sampling that takes place. This is my first expedition but not my last.
I started working at age 15 on weekends in a mechanic shop cleaning. When I turned 16 I moved up to being an auto mechanic and got trained on building and working on cars. I have done all types of jobs from manager of one of the university dinning halls to working in shops. I currently work for IODP and am an Auto Mechanic on the weekends.
On ship I tinker with graphics design and photography, and just hang out mostly. On land I do the same but my main hobbies are scuba diving, hiking, biking, riding my motorcycle.
My favorite memory on this expedition is pulling up the broken drilling shoe leading to the end of hole A at site 1340.
