We’ve officially kicked off the 2025 School of Rock with a successful Day 1! Participants arrived from all over to begin our journey from San Diego to the Galápagos. After wrapping up final preparations in the morning, we gathered at the dock for our first look at the R/V M.G. Langseth.

Once aboard, we met members of the crew, toured the vessel, and completed our first safety briefing—including practice with PFDs and immersion suits. The food onboard has already impressed!

We also established group norms, shared small welcome gifts, and got a head start on data collection and experimental design. A few team members gave short presentations to introduce themselves, and we spent our first night aboard while still in port—excited for the adventure ahead!
