First Full Day at Sea
We’ve been underway for about a day now. I thought that I would feel nervous or uneasy being out of sight of land, but it’s simply too gorgeous out here to feel anything but peaceful and excited. I haven’t been seasick at all – thank goodness!
The science party is using this time to have lots of introductory meetings and training on equipment and procedures. I’m getting settled into a routine, and about to start transitioning to my shift, which is midnight to noon. We chose this shift so I can be working during the time that students will be in school at home. Everyone continues to be very helpful and generous. Our Lab Officer Lisa has told me that we can probably work out some liquid nitrogen experiments to get on film for my students. WAY COOL – LITERALLY!
