Lessions from Past

While we wait for further coring deep towards the basement in the Laxmi basin, we had the opportunity to learn from our past experience.

In the picture you see our shipboard scientist Prof. Mitch Lyle, a Sedimentologist and Stratigraphic Correlator for expedition 355 is sharing his experience about previous IODP expedition 320/321 (Pacific Equatorial Age Transact – PEAT). Mitch, who was also a Co-chief for expedition 321,  delivered his ‘Science Talk’ about benefits of using

X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) scanning of sediment cores to understand rock properties and their relation to the past environment. Weekly science talks are an all time favorite among shipboard scientists to share their expertise with others.
