LIVE Aboard the JR: Hello California and Florida!

Thursday students from Fairlands Elementary in California USA joined us aboard the JR for a day of learning during our LIVE Aboard the JR broadcast.  Students and their teacher, Lisa Highfill joined us for a tour of the JR beginning on the catwalk, with a pan the drill floor and an up-close look at the core lab. Several scientists working in the Core Lab welcomed the students as we introduced each lab area. Following the tour students met with Expedition 340 Staff Scientist, Nicole Stroncik who participated in a Question and Answer session with students. From Expedition 340 in the Lesser Antilles we thank you, students and teachers for your visit and questions, and a special thanks to our 340 Ocean Detective Nicole for generously sharing her time and talents.

Bright and early yesterday morning we had our first group of students from my home state of Florida visit the JR. Students and their teacher, Sari Deitche from Admiral Farragut Academy spent time touring some of the unique technology aboard the JR. We visited the 7-meter opening in the deck of the JR, the moon pool, observed a bottom-hole assembly, and panned the drill floor before climbing the stairs to the 5th deck to visit the Core Lab and meet the some of the 340 scientists. Following the tour students met with Expedition 340 Education Officer, Teresa Greely to participate in a Question and Answer session.
