After an amazing first day on the boat ended with a fantastic sunset, this morning started off just as great.  Calm seas and with a light roll led to a great night sleep.

 

An early morning out on deck revealed continued calms seas and thin cloud cover.   These conditions were perfect for searching for animals, and the search was not in vain.  A shark and pod of dolphins popped up after 20 minutes of viewing.  What luck.

After another delicious breakfast we started with day with some data collection using pocketlabs to collected different weather reading around the ship.  Went out collecting temperature, pressure and humidity readings.  Truly amazing that even on a small-ish ship, like the Langseth, reading can

 

change greatly.  Science in action, gotta love it.  While we were collecting data, the great luck with animal sightings continued with the appearance of 3 whales off the port side of the boat about 200 yards out.  Truly awe inspiring.

 

The afternoon start us thinking about the nature of our voyage as we began investing the plate boundaries and motion that led to the formation of the Galapagos islands and the diversity of its animals.  Makes me wish we could get there quicker, but excited for the adventures of the next 10 days as we are getting there.  Hoping the good luck continues weatherwise and the animals are a plenty.
