Under Pressure
The Styrofoam cups brought on board the JR from Eagle Pass, Texas have made their trip down to the bottom of the Ocean!
The camera was scheduled to travel down the drill pipe, so John Van Hyfte secured the bag of cups to the rig for their 750 meter journey.
When they returned to the surface they were significantly smaller!
This happens because of all the water pressure. You might have noticed that when you swim to the bottom of a swimming pool your ears pop. All that water is pushing down on you. Imagine swimming to the bottom of the ocean! We would need some very special equipment to survive that dive. The cups, on the other hand, don’t!
Next we will be sending a Styrofoam head!
