We arrived to Lisbon and it was fantastic to see the city appearing on the horizon and imagine what the XV century Portuguese navigators felt coming back home. After nearly 8 weeks aboard the JR during we sailed over 1200 nautical miles, drilled 19 holes (in 7 different locations) and collected 681 sediment cores (equivalent to over 5 kilometers of mud and sand) again set foot on terra firma.

However, the Expedition 339 is not over… during the next two days more than 600 people will visit the ship at the Alcântara Pier and among them are my students, friends and family. See you soon!

Chegámos a Lisboa e foi fantástico ver a cidade surgir no horizonte e imaginar o que sentiam os navegadores portugueses do séc. XV ao regressar a casa. Após quase oito semanas a bordo do JR durante as quais navegámos mais de 1200 milhas náuticas, realizámos 19 furos (em 7 locais) e recolhemos 681 testemunhos de sedimentos (que equivalem a mais de 5 quilómetros de lama e areia) voltámos a pisar terra firme.

Todavia, a Expedição 339 ainda não terminou… durante os próximos dois dias mais de 600 pessoas irão visitar o navio no Cais Avançado de Alcântara e entre eles estarão os meus alunos, alguns amigos e a família. Até breve!!!
