On to the next Site!

3rd June 2009

Well we’re on the move again. The JOIDES Resolution has left site U1337 for U1338. There are about 220 nautical miles to go, so we should arrive on site in about 20 hours.

Wireline Logging is all done for U1337A. :-)

26th May 2009

Well I’m sorry not to have blogged for so long, but it has been pretty busy here. We’ve spent the last couple of days logging the first hole (A) at U1337, and I’m pleased to say it was a success!

Core on the floor!

It’s all happening here now! My shift started about an hour ago and everything is in full swing. We arrived at our first drill site on the 19th May and started coring that afternoon. Today we’ve recovered our 27th core, and reached a depth of around 250 metres below the seafloor!

The Transit continues…

Well we are making good progress to our first site U1337 where we hope to drill multiple holes. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned my job, but just in case I haven’t, I’m one of the Logging Staff Scientists on the ship. This means I am involved in the process of putting tools downhole that measure different physical properties of the surrounding sediment/rocks.

Expedition 321 - we have lift off!

Well we’re off! Expedition 321, here we come! It hardly seems anytime since Expedition 320T and here we are again. It already feels like I’ve been away from home quite a while.

Now in business!

Topics:

Wow! The last few days have been really busy, so I've not been able to blog. We started drilling our first hole (U1330A) on the 15th February! This was dedicated to downhole measurements and testing of logging equipment - meaning that my colleagues and I in the Logging Team were in business!

A Lovely Day at Sea

Well it’s another lovely day at sea today. The sun is out and the Pacific Ocean is nice and calm. I’m about half way through my 12-hour shift, and the JR is making good progress traveling at more than 10 knots. I’m one of the Logging Staff Scientists on the ship, and today we’ve been continuing to test all our tools to make sure we are going to be ready for when drilling operations start.
