Back in business

A new day brings new core to our sediment hungry science party. The drilling is at that irritating point where the sediments are too tough to piston core and still a little soft for rotary coring so our recovery comes and goes a little but still we are still getting enough to keep the labs running and people are excited to be back describing stuff and making slow but steady progress towards our final basement objective around 900 m below the bottom of the drill bit. It will take time but we are patient people. Here you see Ravi Mishra (National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, India) and Zhaokai Xu (Chinese Academy of Science, Qingdao) describing the new cores from Hole D and admiring all the pretty trace fossils to be seen.
