Back in the water!

Today the weather was calmer and JASON was able to go back in the water – to deploy osmosamplers and take water samples at the two sites we were supposed to go to yesterday. So it’s been down all day and is expected to stay down in the deep throughout the night.

In between our JASON control van shifts, we had a chance for an engine room tour led by the chief engineer, Jeff. It was very cool to see the engines, water distillers, control room, air conditioning systems, and other equipment that make the ship run. The ship makes its own drinking water, and we learned that we are using about 2600 gallons of water per day, which apparently is below average!
