From Adam to Earth Scientists in Training IV
Dear Earth Scientists in Training,
Here's a little more background information about the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program that involves every part of the globe. Take a look and see what you think. And for all the third graders and elementary students onshore, you can get your own JR tracking globe by writing to the folks at the Deep Earth Academy!
WHERE HAVE WE TAKEN CORES OF THE SEAFLOOR BEFORE? The little dots on this map show all the places the ship has gone and we have taken cores of the seafloor. So far, I’ve been on expeditions to the Mediterranean Sea, the North Atlantic (off Portugal and Canada), the Central Atlantic (off South Carolina and Barbados), the South Atlantic (Where the Amazon River dumps sediment into the ocean), the North Pacific (off Japan, Oregon), the Central Pacific (near the equator and off Costa Rica), and off Papua New Guinea in the western Pacific. Today we're still in the middle of the Pacific and you can see where we are by clicking on the Google Earth map on the front page of this website!
I'm still having fun. We've seen some great animals lately and there's always more interesting core in the lab. But I really miss you!
Adam
