Crew Profiles and Career History

The JR’s crew is the set of returning staff who carry out the ship’s key procedures—

—from navigation and drilling to housekeeping and cooking to key roles in the core lab. Often up to 65 crew members are on board any given expedition. Key roles are filled by marine professionals, ocean drilling specialists, and scientific technicians, among others. The entire crew rotates in and out about every other expedition. Browse the pictures below and we will be adding more information to each of these soon so you can learn more!

The JR also hosts a group of scientists, called the Science Party, who work on board the JR for one specific mission. Learn who's on the current Science Party.
